Starting Over Isn’t Pretty—But It’s Powerful

I went for my weigh-in yesterday after my first week back on Program, and honestly, I’m still in a bit of a daze…

I know Thin’s In works. I’ve seen the proof over the years—not just in others, but in myself. Still, this time hit different. Losing nine pounds in just one week doesn’t feel real. It’s the most I’ve ever lost in a single week, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it.
Last week, I realized my decision to restart was similar to a behavior modification technique. Continuing that mindset, this upcoming week I’m focusing on another technique:
“Build on small victories. Little successes breed larger ones.”
Before I can keep pushing forward toward my goal, I need to be honest—with myself and with all of you—about how hard last week truly was. I made mistakes. But I also made some really good choices. And those small wins? I’m going to build on them.
I started last Thursday, and by the time the weekend rolled around, I was painfully unprepared. By noon on Saturday, I was ready to eat the dog just to make the headache stop. (Don’t worry, I didn’t—too much fur and fat.) Instead, I ordered a pizza. Ate the whole pizza. Then immediately deleted every food delivery app on my phone.
Sunday went better. I kept myself busy, and that helped ease the sugar withdrawal headache. That night, I went to a family party and stuck to seltzer water like it was my job. The food being constantly covered in flies definitely helped kill my appetite. (Small mercies, right?) I almost made it through without a slip, but I did have a little coleslaw with my salad and burger (half a bun—not the lite kind). Still, I passed on the cookies, cupcakes, and even the ice cream cake. I’m calling that a win!
By some miracle, I woke up Monday with no headache. No sugar cravings. I woke up ready to go and had a strong, clean day on Program. And from there, the rest of the week was solid.
One more win from the week? I re-discovered my favorite way to eat potatoes on Program—and I’m sharing it below in case you’re looking for something easy, delicious, and satisfying!
Best Potato Hack
Ingredients:
- Russet Potato or Sweet Potato
- Salt
- Pepper
- Sweet Onion (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375oF
- Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly spray with cooking spray
- Thinly slice the potato (I use a mandolin for easy, even slices)
- Lay out potato slices on baking sheet & spray lightly with cooking spray
- Season with salt and pepper
- For extra yumminess, add thinly sliced onions over the potato slices
- Bake until golden brown – about 15-20 minutes
- Measure out 4oz of potato (it’ll be most of the tray – if not all) and ENJOY!
Progress is never perfect, but it is possible—and this past week reminded me of that in a big way. Here’s to building on small victories, one meal (and one mindset shift) at a time.

6 oz chicken thighs, carrots, 4oz potato, onion, 2T BBQ sauce
3 proteins, 1 limited veg, 3/3 fat, free veggies
