Life Doesn't Stop

I almost didn't write a blog this week.

Not because anything bad happened. Not because Program wasn't working. Honestly, I looked at the calendar and wondered where the week went.

Between spending time with friends, hosting speed dating events, volunteering, baking and cooking for work, and trying to keep up with everyday life, the week disappeared before I knew it. It was one of those weeks where every day was busy, every evening had something planned, and suddenly it was time to weigh in again.

After everything I wrote a few weeks ago about resetting and recommitting myself to Program, I think this week taught me something equally important: Program isn't supposed to become your whole life. It's supposed to help you live it.

Sometimes we get so focused on food sheets, weigh-ins, water intake, and the number on the scale that we forget the real goal isn't to put life on hold until we reach maintenance. The goal is to learn how to navigate real life while staying on Program.

Because life doesn't stop.

There will always be birthdays, work events, volunteer commitments, dinners with friends, errands, family obligations, and weeks where you're pretty sure Monday happened about six hours ago. Waiting for life to calm down before committing to healthy habits is a losing battle because life is always going to find a way to stay busy.

The trick isn't finding a week where nothing happens. The trick is learning how to make good choices while everything is happening.

Thankfully, I wasn't doing it entirely alone. The $10 Challenge with my mother continued this week. For anyone keeping score, I owe her twenty dollars.

Apparently I am capable of losing weight, but not capable of keeping all my challenge requirements in order.

Despite my financial losses, the challenge did exactly what it was designed to do. It kept me paying attention. I found myself checking my water intake, watching my step count, and being more mindful of my food choices throughout the week. Not perfectly, obviously, but consistently. And sometimes consistency matters far more than perfection.

The scale reflected that this week. I lost another two pounds.

What struck me most wasn't the number itself, but the fact that the loss happened during a week when Program wasn't the center of my attention. I wasn't sitting around thinking about being on Program. I was spending time with friends, helping with events, volunteering, baking, cooking, and living my life.

Program simply came along for the ride.

The more time I spend on this journey, the more I rea

lize that's probably the point. Not waiting to live until I lose the weight. Not putting life on hold until I reach maintenance. But learning how to build healthy habits into a life that is already full.

Because life doesn't stop.

And thankfully, neither does progress.

This week’s loss: 2 pounds

Total loss so far: 56 pounds
